NEIGHBORHOOD BENCHES, Inc.
NEIGHBORHOOD BENCHES (NB) educate young people on leadership and good practices that break cycles of youth violence and incarceration. In underrepresented neighborhoods, with the help of directly impacted people, NB is teaching young people to act as leaders for finding solutions and implementing them.
Neighborhood Benches Transforming People & Building Community
Neighborhood Benches actively seeks out individuals who demonstrate strong leadership qualities within their communities. These recruits are not only identified for their potential but are also provided with comprehensive training and support to become effective mentors. This initiative recognizes that local leaders possess unique insights and experiences that can significantly influence the dynamics of their neighborhoods, making them ideal candidates for mentorship roles.
The individuals selected for this program are uniquely equipped to foster meaningful change in their communities. Their established relationships, built on trust and legitimacy, allow them to understand the specific needs and challenges faced by their neighbors. By investing in these community leaders, Neighborhood Benches aims to address social issues at their core, empowering them with the resources and connections necessary to create impactful solutions tailored to their community’s needs.
Through the development of mentors and the facilitation of mentorship opportunities for young people, Neighborhood Benches fosters an environment where community members can engage in constructive dialogue. This approach not only cultivates a sense of belonging but also builds a network of caring individuals committed to uplifting one another. Ultimately, by nurturing these relationships and encouraging active participation, we are laying the groundwork for a resilient and supportive community.
